Well, here we go with the first post. I should probably start by explaining my interpretation of – a boundless appetite. A boundless appetite is essentially a curiosity and hunger for the great wide open. It’s an inquiring mind, an inquisitive palette, that longs for new adventures, distant lands and foreign foods. It’s simply a desire to live a delicious and wholehearted life. I can’t fully comprehend and appreciate food without looking at the origins, the culture and the stories behind how the food came to be. Therefore, I think that food and culture are inextricably linked, and on this blog, I’d like to share with you my love and interest for this theme.

This isn’t another travel blog where I’ll write about the best places to visit and top restaurants to eat at when you’re visiting Florence. Nope, this is a place where people who love to eat, cook, explore, share stories and live intentionally – come together. I’ll be documenting and sharing my experiences while traveling near and far, and undoubtedly, the food, people and stories that come my way. This is a community for the slightly odd, open-minded foodies, who have a thirst for knowledge and a big appetite for great fucking food.

Just a bit of background about me (in case you give a damn): In mid-2019, I moved from Australia- where I grew up, to Portugal – where I fell in love with so much. For the last 1.5 years, I’ve been living in Lisbon – the hilly, vibrant, and gorgeous capital city of Portugal. But I had never anticipated that I would be living so far away from the place I had always called ‘home’. Actually, now that I think about it, I’ve never really known where ‘home’ is. For some people, home is where they were born or grew up , but I’m not sure if this is the case for me. I was born in New Zealand, where my parents immigrated to after the collapse of the Soviet Union. My mum is Russian and my dad is Armenian- both of them grew up in communist soviet times, and moved to New Zealand for a different life. When I was just four years old, they once again moved but this time only to neighbouring Australia, where I spent the next 20 years. For most of my life, i’ve questioned my cultural identity- but that’s a story for another day.

It was during my solo travels around West & Central Europe in 2018, that I first encountered Portugal, and from that moment on, I knew I had to return and live here for a while. I’m happy to call Portugal home now, and although ‘home’ might change again in the future, I really don’t think it matters a great deal. After all, I think the most important things in life are the people in my home, the love, warmth and kindness we share, and of course – the food on our table.

Since moving to Portugal, my love and interest for food and food culture has only grown. I hope you enjoy the blog and share your food/travel/life experiences with me, too.
